 – Three men have been caught for defiling women in Akwa Ibom state – The 3-man gang were arrested in Uyo the state capital – The notorious gang is reported to be in the habit of hypnotizing young ladies and defiling them afterwards At the weekend, the Akwa Ibom police command paraded members of a three-man gang who allegedly specialized in hypnotizing girls around Uyo metropolis and defiling them afterwards.

Police spokesperson ASP Cordelia Nwawe, paraded the suspects: James Etim, 24, Charles Essien, 27, and Utebe Archibong, 29 before newsmen at the state command headquarters. Confessing to the crime, the suspects said they have lost count of women they have raped. According to the trio, who said they had been raping for a very long time, many young women have fallen prey to their pranks. The PPRO further noted that the suspects are in police custody and will be charged to court soon.

Argentina and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud.

His father, Jorge Messi, was also given a jail term for defrauding Spain of €4.1m (£3.5m; $4.5m) between 2007 and 2009.

They also face millions of euros in fines for using tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights.

However, neither man is expected to serve time in jail.

The footballer and his father were found guilty of three counts of tax fraud in Wednesday's ruling by the court in Barcelona.

As well as the jail terms, Messi was fined about €2m and his father €1.5m. They made a voluntary €5m "corrective payment", equal to the alleged unpaid tax plus interest, in August 2013.

The sentence can be appealed against via the Spanish supreme court.

Alton Sterling shooting: US authorities to investigate

The US Department of Justice has launched a civil rights investigation into a police shooting of a black man in Louisiana.

Video footage appeared to show two white police officers holding down and fatally shooting Alton Sterling, 37, in Baton Rouge.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said the US attorney's office, the FBI and state police will also be involved.

"The video is disturbing to say the least," he said.

Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie Jr said Mr Sterling was armed at the time of the confrontation, but questions still remain about the circumstances surrounding his death.

"Like you, there is a lot that we do not understand. And at this point, like you, I am demanding answers," the chief said.

The shooting on Tuesday sparked protests from about 200 people who gathered at the scene where Mr Sterling was shot, blocking roads and chanting: "Black lives matter".

The governor called for unity and urged protesters to remain calm as authorities conduct an investigation into the shooting.

"I have full confidence that this matter will be investigated thoroughly, impartially and professionally, and I will demand that's the way it's conducted." Governor Bel Edwards said.

Blane Salamoni, a four-year veteran on the force, and Howie Lake II, a three-year veteran, were placed on administrative leave over the death, officials said.

The incident comes amid mounting tension in the US over the deaths of black men at the hands of police.

There are more than 1,000 deadly shootings by police in the US each year, and disproportionate numbers of those killed are black Americans.

Police spokesman Cpl L'Jean McKneely said the officers had been called in after reports that a man selling CDs outside a convenience store had threatened someone with a gun.

Mobile video footage appeared to show two officers wrestling a man in a red shirt to the floor.

One of the officers pinned the man's arm to the floor with his knee and then appeared to pull out his gun and point it at the man.

A voice is heard shouting: "He's got a gun. Gun." Then shots ring out and the camera moves away.

Mr Sterling, a father of five, died at the scene.

Cameron Sterling, Mr Sterling's 15-year-old son, began crying at a news conference as his mother spoke.

"He had to watch this as this was put all over the outlets," Quinyetta McMillon, Cameron Sterling's mother said.

"As a mother I have now been forced to raise a son who is going to remember what happened to his father."

Michael McClanahan, president of the city's local NAACP, which is an African-American civil rights organisation, told reporters Mr Sterling's death was indicative of a greater problem with the "the culture of the Baton Rouge Police Department".

"This incident is one of many," he said.

– The rate of knife-related crimes in the United Kingdom seems not to be abating – Unfortunately, a young Nigerian student in the country has been killed – Folajimi Orebiyi was stabbed to death by youths on bicycles after being pursued A report by The Guardian UK, has detailed how 17-year old Nigerian student, Folajimi Orebiyi was fatally stabbed to death by a gang of youths. Orebiyi, who is said to stay in the Kensington area of London bled to death on Sunday night outside La Cave à Fromage, a famous market street after he was left in the pool of his own blood.
